ABOUT YOUTH SERVICE AMERICA

Youth Service America is a resource center that partners with thousands of organizations committed to increasing the quality and quantity of volunteer opportunities for young people, ages 5-25, to serve locally, nationally, and globally. Founded in 1986, YSA’s mission is to expand the impact of the youth service movement with communities, schools, corporations, and governments. YSA envisions a global culture of engaged youth who are committed to a lifetime of service, learning, leadership and achievement.

ABOUT THE OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY

Youth Service America and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), U.S. Department of Justice are offering $1,000 grants to engage youth in foster care in community service. The goal of this program is to implement youth-led service projects that engage youth in service and develop their capacity for leadership and civic engagement. A significant component of the service should occur on Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), April 25-27, 2008.

ABOUT GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY

A program of YSA, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world. Each year in April, millions of youth design and lead projects in areas ranging from literacy and the environment to healthcare, nutrition, and help for the elderly. GYSD is a year-round effort to expand the impact of the youth service movement. The initiative launches new service organizations, policy changes, and sustainable service programs to create a culture of engaged youth.
