Dr. Anita Borg (1949 - 2003) devoted her adult life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields. Her combination of technical expertise and fearless vision continues to inspire and motivate countless women to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.
As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to furthering Anita’s vision, we are pleased to announce the 2008 Google Anita Borg Scholarship, through which we hope to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic background and demonstrated leadership. A group of female undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each.
All scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to visit Google headquarters in Mountain View, California on April 3-5, 2008 for a networking retreat which will include workshops with a series of speakers, panelists, breakout sessions and social activities.
Eligibility Requirements Candidates must:
-be entering their senior year of undergraduate study or be enrolled in a graduate program in 2008-2009 at a university in the United States. -be Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field majors. -be enrolled in full-time study in 2008-2009. maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in their current program.
How to Apply Complete the online application form and submit the requested documentation via mail. All applications must be postmarked by Friday, February 1, 2008.
Finalists will be notified in March 2008. As the final step in the scholarship selection process, all finalists will have phone interviews with representatives from the Google Selection Committee. Scholarship recipients will be selected from the finalists.

The 2009 Ford Motor Company International Fellowship of the 92nd Street Y is now accepting applications from community leaders who are citizens and residents of Azerbaijan; the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania; Cambodia; Ethiopia; Israel; Liberia; and Uruguay.
Applications must be postmarked, faxed, or emailed by June 30, 2008 to be considered. Please distribute the attached brochures and applications to individuals you think would benefit from this wonderful opportunity.
This annual fellowship is funded by the Ford Motor Company and organized by the 92nd Street Y to provide education and support to community leaders engaged in the nonprofit sector. To date, 179 individuals from 46 countries have received the Ford Fellowship, which is now in its eighth year.
A successful applicant must demonstrate that he or she:
in the nonprofit sector, either professionally is a community leader engaged or as a volunteer;
issues that affect the community's well-being;
and is successfully addressing three-week nonprofit management training would benefit from an intensive course in New York.
Previous Ford Fellows include: a South African AIDS educator; society facilitating Bosnia-Herzegovina' s transition to democracy expert from a sustainable development Zimbabwe; organization that educates women and children working the founder of an Indian in the silk industry; and an Indonesian advocate for ethnic minorities.
The residency takes place June 5-June 24, 2009 in New York City. Airfare, accommodation, food, transportation, instruction, and other program-related expenses are included in the fellowship, and participants receive a small stipend upon arrival.
During the intensive three-week residency, Ford Fellows take classes in areas including nonprofit management strategy and leadership training at Columbia University's Picker Center for Executive Education. The academic curriculum is complemented by visits to model nonprofits in New York City and meetings with academic, business, and government leaders. The experience is enhanced by Fellows' residency at the 92nd Street Y, a community and cultural center founded in 1874 that now serves over 300,000 people annually.

OverviewEstablished in 1971, the Council’s Fellowship Program has played a crucial role in the early stages of many experts’ careers. The Program serves as the leading resource for pre-dissertation fellowships, intended to fund young scholars’ first major research projects in Europe. Since the program’s founding, the Council has awarded more than 500 fellowships, totaling more than $2.0 million.
AwardFellowship sponsors three components:
a) A two-month stay abroad, during which time fellows pursue original archival and field research;
b) Fellows’ participation at the CES International Conference, where they present their findings and receive feedback from senior scholars;
c) Publication of fellows’ research reports in the CES journal, the European Studies Forum (as well as electronically).
EligibilityIn order to be eligible for the award, applicants must fulfill four criteria:
1) The CES Fellowship is intended to fund students’ first major research project in Europe. Students who have already engaged in extensive field work and study in Europe, related to their dissertation, are not eligible.
2) Applicants must be in the exploratory, early stage of their research.
3) Applicants are expected to have finished all or a majority of their doctoral coursework.
4) The applicant’s home university must be a member of the Council’s academic consortium.

SelectionApplications are evaluated by the CES Fellowship Committee whose members represent a range of disciplines and institutions. Applicants will be notified that their applications are complete on March 1, 2008, and will be informed of the Committee’s decision by May 1st.
ApplicationThe application consists of two parts:
Applicants must compile an electronic MS Word application, attach it to a single email message, and send to ces@columbia.edu by February 1, 2008. The subject line of the email must read: “2008 CES Pre-Dissertation Fellowship: Application of [Name of Applicant].” Detailed requirements are included in the application form.
Three recommendations are required and must be emailed directly by referees to ces@columbia.edu, also by February 1st. Recommendations must be included as attachments and not pasted into the body of the email. The subject line of the email must read: “2008 CES Pre-Dissertation Fellowship: Letter for [Name of Applicant].”
Due Date:Completed applications must be submitted to CES via email by February 1, 2008. All emails must be sent to ces@columbia.edu.

The Disney Minnie Grants GYSD 2008(U.S. and International Applicants)The Walt Disney Company and Youth Service America are excited to announce grants of up to $500 to support youth-led service projects. These grants support youth (ages 5-14) in planning and implementing service projects in their community. Teachers, older youth (15-25), and youth-serving organizations are also eligible to apply, if they engage younger youth (5-14) in planning and implementing the project. A significant part of the service must take place on GYSD 2008, April 25-27. We encourage youth to address important issues such as climate change, malaria or other diseases, human rights, literacy, or others.
Applicants can use the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)as a reference.Applications are welcome from all countries. While information is available in: Spanish, Français (French), Russian, Chinese, and Hindi, applications will only be accepted in English (an online translation tool is available at the YSA website). Applicants from China, India, and Russia are especially encouraged to apply. Past Disney Minnie Grantees are also eligible to apply.
